Let there be light! Garage door opener light that is...

Did you know there is a difference between a regular light bulb and the kind that is in your garage door opener? There is! In order to get the longest life and the most for your money you will need to visit your local hardware store and purchase a garage door opener light bulb, a 60 watt bulb will do just fine. What's the difference? Well, a garage door opener light bulb is specifically designed to handle the vibrations produced by the opener. If you replace your bulb with a standard light bulb the life of the bulb will be considerably shorter.

How do you replace a garage door opener light bulb? Easy. First, get a ladder and place it under your opener. Locate the opener electrical plug and unplug it from the ceiling for safety reasons. Then pull the white cover off from the back of your opener. It should pop off easily. Then you can access the old bulb. Unscrew the bulb carefully and replace it with the new one. Pop your cover back on and plug the unit back in. Ta-Da! Your new bulb should be working now. If not just give us a call and we will come and check it out for you. 352-694-4335

What is a light beam?

http://www2.garaga.com/pages/img/porte-tricycle.jpgHas your garage door ever started to go down and immediately gone back up? Will it not close? Your first option is to check your light beams! They are the small black boxes on either side of your garage door inside your garage. The job of the light beam is to stop your garage door from closing with an object under it. Most home owners get light beams to protect pets and children. There is an invisible light beam that reaches between the two black boxes. If the boxes lights are on, but blinking you know that they are not aligned properly. You can manually wiggle the box to realign it with the one across from it. Once both beams lights are on and steady you can try your door again and it should close properly. If it doesn't give us a call and we will come check it out for you!
